Hurricane Ike Hits Galveston and Tina's

Tina's may very well be underwater; we simply don't know. We sit by the TV, read blogs, news websites, try to call friends on Galveston Island, but to no avail. Hurricane Ike has prevented us from finding out how much damage there is; we simply have no credible news right now.

The beautiful new fall windows and displays were up and business has been wonderful. Christmas merchandise has been coming in for weeks and we hope it is safe in the storeroom upstairs. To think that storm muck and water came in above the second level is just unimaginable.

Today we located a company to help us clean up the mess, but it could be weeks before anyone is allowed on the island and more than a month before we have power.

By the way, I am Tina's daughter, Wendy, and I live in Austin and am hosting my whole family, which also owns The Admiralty on the Strand. Both businesses are in jeopardy from Hurricane Ike, but they plan to get back to Galveston as soon a possible and get the stores open again.

Tina's staff are safe. Boyce rode out the storm in League City and fared well. Christina is safe in Humble and I'll send updates on everyone else as I have them.

Best of luck to all of you in Galveston and the areas impacted by this enormous storm!
